Course Prerequisites

To ensure that you can successfully undertake training in the HCIA-Access course, the following minimum prerequisites are recommended:

  • Basic understanding of computer networks, including familiarity with network topologies and network devices such as routers and switches.
  • Knowledge of the OSI model and an understanding of its layers, particularly the physical, data link, and network layers.
  • Familiarity with the TCP/IP protocol suite and the function of key protocols such as IP, TCP, UDP, and ICMP.
  • Awareness of Ethernet standards and operation, including concepts related to switching and VLANs.
  • An introductory level of knowledge about IP addressing and subnetting.
  • Basic familiarity with command line interface (CLI) operations, which is helpful for configuring and troubleshooting network devices.
  • Understanding of the principles behind WAN technologies and access networks, although specific knowledge of PON or xDSL technologies is not a strict prerequisite, as it will be covered during the course.

These prerequisites are intended to provide a solid foundation for understanding the concepts taught in the HCIA-Access course. Individuals with a background in computer science, information technology, or a related field may find it easier to grasp the course material. However, motivated learners with less experience are encouraged to engage with the material, as the course is designed to introduce and explain the key concepts of access network technologies.
