On this page we feature students who are either currently attending or recently attended a Boot Camp at Koenig. We encourage them to share their experiences in India with their friends across the world. If you are planning to join a Boot Camp at Koenig, you will find this section interesting. And, of course, you can hope to be featured here soon !!!
I took a regular track on a one-to-one basis in both the Sun Certified Java Associates (SCJA) and Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) training at Koenig Solutions, New Delhi in January 2008.
Communication prior to coming here was excellent via emails, from customizing the courses and exam scheduling, and to answer a barrage of questions! To make payments more secure, Koenig would arrange a telephone call to me at a time that was convenient to me take credit card details.
Everything was organized very well for my trip in Delhi – a Koenig employee picked me up from the airport arrivals
hall and took me directly to my hotel by taxi. I was given an envelope containing well-organized and very useful information regarding contact persons and phone numbers, maps of my local hotel area, suggestions on where to eat etc, and the important “starter” 1000 Rupees (Rs), which meant that I did not have to exchange any foreign currency myself either in the U.K. or try and find a bank or exchange bureau. Incidentally, the 1000 Rs was included into the price I paid for the whole course!
The hotel I stayed in was the Rangoli Park Hotel, which was a budget hotel. The staff are on the whole friendly after they get to know you a bit, but I think the really nice thing about this hotel is that it is situated in front of a park ( Rangoli Park … Duh!). Don't expect a 4 Star hotel, because it is quite basic in nature (thus the term “budget”). You get a double bed, a wardrobe, small dressing table, TV, adequate but quite old (well-used, putting it nicely) bathroom with a western toilet, basin and shower. I had some initial problems during the first couple of days with my room where I had a bordered-up broken bathroom window and no hot water. But I was subsequently moved to another room on request, which was like heaven in comparison! One thing I would recommend to any future students is
that if you have a problem with your hotel, tell Koenig immediately!! I tried to sort out the initial problems myself, but later issues such as further episodes of no hot water (they had boiler problems, which they fixed), and the need for a reading lamp for my studies, Koenig would call the hotel immediately and sort things out for me.
I was forewarned to be careful with what I eat and to drink only bottled water whilst I was here. I had one episode of upset stomach only during the three weeks duration. If you stay at Rangoli, or anywhere else close-by, such as the Kingston Hotel, I would recommend the Yo! China restaurant that is on the opposite side of Rangoli Park . The staff are very friendly, the food very tasty and the price of, say, a combo meal, which includes a drink, one spring roll, noodles/rice with meat or vegetable dish set me back around 100 Rs (U.K. Sterling 1.30).
You are essentially looked-after by Koenig the moment you arrive into airport, from being picked up at the airport, and finally being dropped off at the airport on your way home. In addition, you are picked up from you hotel and dropped off at your hotel every day of your training. There are 2 morning pickups of students 0815 and 0845, but the recommendation is to go for the earlier one as the latter one would be more crowded. In the afternoons/early evenings, there are 4 drop-offs, starting at 1600 through to 1730.
The admin staff at Koenig are exceptionally polite, and provide you with immediate attention if you had any problems at all. My trainer was a really nice and friendly girl. She was very courteous, easy to get on with. Her teaching techniques and knowledge of Java to pass the exams were, on the whole, good. She was able to give me examples of practical applications of Java, so that the concepts and techniques that I was learning didn't remain floating in the air, but were set in concrete.
I had my birthday whilst I was here during the second week of my training. It was my first birthday away from home, so it came as a really lovely surprise to receive a bouquet of flowers from Koenig just to wish me a happy birthday! It brought a tear to my eye!
The course was very intense. Since I was new to Java and the concept of OO, I had to put in a bit more effort to keep up with the onslaught of material on a day-to-day basis. This meant that I averaged about a 13 hour day, 7 days a week, study schedule (0900 – 1700 at the centre, working through lunch, then work in the evenings in my hotel until around midnight). But then, they wouldn't call it a BOOTCAMP for nothing! This meant that I didn't really enjoy myself until my course ended! On Sunday (my last day here at Koenig), a group of us will be visiting the Taj Mahal, which I am told will be a mind-blowing experience, and well worth the 5 hours by car journey just to get there!
Koenig attracts students from all over the world. Everyone got on with everyone else! So I made lots of new friends here, which is another bonus I shall be taking back to the U.K. with me!
My objectives before I came here were to learn and understand the Java language, which I feel I have achieved, with the added bonus of having passed both the exams with flying colours (over 90%). I would wholeheartedly recommend Koenig Solutions for accelerated IT-training in India, and with a private tutor if that falls within your budget.
