“Going to India, to a boot camp, to do an IT course, at 63; you must be mad!”
That was the comment I had from most people I mentioned it to. But, going on the premise, “if you don’t use it you lose it”, (my brain, I mean!) I decided to book my place with Koenig.
After looking at Koenigs very informative and clear web pages, corresponding with their very helpful representative and emailing a former student I elected to try the MCSA regular track course. I also choose the slightly better accommodation and opted for WillowBanks Hotel which was clean, the rooms are fine and the staff helpful and friendly. This also turned out to be a good choice because many Koenig students stay there, all my fellow students turned out to be extremely friendly and, despite my age, (the age group is predominantly 25 to 40 ish) I made a lot of good friends from all parts of the world.
The Koenig organization were spot on with the arrangements, picking me up at the Airport, handing me a good information pack with some rupees and delivering me to a, not very salubrious hotel, in the back streets of Delhi and then another cab in the morning to the bus station. The ten hour Volvo bus ride on the mountain roads to Shimla was “exciting” to say the least, sick bags are issued and used!
The arrangements in Shimla were good, picked up and delivered with my luggage to the hotel efficiently. There are alternatives to the bus ride, you can arrange to travel by train which,
apparently, takes about the same time but is more relaxed and more of a scenic journey. You can also fly up but there is a limitation on the luggage weight and, of course, on your budget!
Regarding the training: I was in a class of two, we had two different tutors, the first one was not of the quality we had expected but, after expressing our misgivings, we were allocated a different tutor, who was outstanding. Any points we found difficult were explained in different ways until the tutor was satisfied that we understood completely, we were asked when we felt ready to take the exams, we were given every possible aid to understand our subject completely and also the necessary information to prepare for passing the examinations.
I found all the Koenig staff, without exception, really friendly and helpful and ready to go out of their way to accommodate any small problems I might have.
It’s not an easy ride, to achieve you have to work hard, lots of studying at night and not much socializing.
I had little knowledge regarding Microsoft Server 2003 before I enrolled with Koenig but I have passed all examinations first time and I am returning to UK an “old codger” with a MCSA! (also slimmer, I’ve lost a stone!!)
I have no hesitation in recommending Koenig, they look after you completely and, if you are prepared to work hard, you can be assured that, with their help, you will obtain the qualifications you wish for. |
