Well, I am writing this towards the end of my stay here in Shimla after spending nearly 2 months here and what an experience it has been! I was made redundant from my company of 10 years so never really looked at the job market until I left. Certainly more companies where looking for some formal qualification to prove your experience. So started an adventure!
Why did I choose India and Koenig? Well the cost in England to take an MCSE for 15 days (which has got to be impossible) could buy a small country so looking around on the net I came across Koeing who have a number of sites around India but I particularly liked the look of Shimla as its in the foothills of the Himalayas which I have always wanted to visit.
Well I booked and went the regular track for MCSE here in Shimla. It was very well organised - being collected from the airport given local currency, information pack and taken to an overnight and I use the next word with some trepidation “hotel” which luckily I had to spend little time there before the train journey to Shimla. Some people went by coach which is quicker and more comfortable so I recommend that.
I stayed in the Willowbank Hotel which I thoroughly recommend as the rooms are great and the service is very good and a million miles away from the overnight stay in Delhi which did alleviate my worries somewhat.
Over the duration of the MCSE course I found my instructor helpful, friendly, knowledgably and now count him as a friend of which I thought would never happen and made the course very enjoyable. I enjoyed the course so much I finished the MCSE 6 days early so asked if it was possible to do a CCNA straight after the MCSE which was organised for me no problem.
If you come over here thinking it’s easy and require little work then let me just say I have never studied so much and taken in so many concepts in such a short space of time in my life. You will get ill which is the downside and being away from home is tough but the people in India are so friendly and the staff of Koenig are helpful and try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Meat is scare and of not good quality so might be worth bringing protein shake particularly if you’re a meat eater like me. There are many monkeys wondering around Shimla and one morning they was a “bundle” of them running down the road pushing bins over and slapping windows and generally making a nuisance of themselves , that really did remind me of home.
India seems to run on a chaos theory with a lot of synchronicity thrown in with people, cows, dogs, monkeys and cars all vying for the same space yet all missing one another in a cacophony of noise and smell. But I certainly look forward to the quite and order that I’m used to in my own country!
Well my stay has been very worth while with an MCSE and a CCNA to go back home with but also the people I have met from around the world who also choose to come on an adventure. |
