This course focuses on the configuration and management of the Celerra unified storage platforms (NS-120, NS-480 and NS-960) for filesystem (NAS) and block (SAN) access using Celerra Manager and Navisphere Manager.

The block access sections of this course will cover the FLARE release 29 and Navisphere version 6.29. In addition, focus will be on integration with Windows and Linux, both Fibre Channel and iSCSI. Other topics will include Storage Provisioning and Management, Advanced Storage Pool and LUN concepts, Alerts and Event Monitoring.

The file access sections of this course will cover the Celerra platform. Content covered during this course will include the commonly used features using Celerra Manager. Management tasks (file system creation, export, permissions, security, and availability) for Celerra platforms in a Windows, UNIX environments are also covered. This course currently supports Celerra version 5.6.

This course is intended for any person who presently or plans to:
  • Architects, manage, or positions solutions with CLARiiON storage
  • Configures, manages, or architects EMC NAS solutions with EMC Celerra.


Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Understand concepts related to CLARiiON hardware and software features
  • Integrate open systems hosts into CLARiiON environments
  • Use EMC Navisphere Manager and other components of the EMC Navisphere suite in a practical environment
  • Describe the functionality of Celerra Manager
  • Implement Data Mover failover
  • Implement Basic network configurations as well as configure and manage Celerra file systems
  • Export Celerra file systems for NFS and CIFS access
  • Implement Virtual Data Movers
  • Implement file system quotas on the Celerra
  • Implement CIFS features
  • Configure Celerra Networking features

Prerequisite Knowledge/Skills
To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student should have knowledge and skills associated with the following:

  • Familiarity with Celerra and CLARiiON models, components, management options and features
  • Data integrity and availability features found in a CLARiiON storage platform
  • CLARiiON performance, storage configuration and provisioning concepts
  • PowerPath performance, transparent recovery and availability features in an open systems host environment
  • SAN terminology, features, architecture, theory of operations, and management including Fibre Channel and IP Storage networks concepts and EMC Connectrix switche
  • Ethernet switch configuration, to include managed switch features like VLANs, and TCP/IP networking
  • Ethernet settings, to include duplex, throughput, and port channeling
  • Basic Microsoft Windows administration skills, including users/groups, files/directories, and domain infrastructures
  • Basic UNIX administration skills, including managing users/groups and files/directories
