Diwali is India's biggest and most popular festival. The whole country is decorated and lit up for the occasion. Diwali is known as the festival of lights and people light up and decorate their houses. As per Indian mythology, Diwali symbolizes celebration of victory of good over evil.
We organized a Diwali party on Oct. 18th to mark the occasion. The party was a grand, grand success.
The party was held in a lush green park which is a 45 minutes drive from the Training Center and Hotels. All students were transported together in a mini-van from their respective Hotels.
On arrival, students received a traditional Indian welcome of garlands.
Diwali is a festival of lights and is celebrated by lighting candles and playing with crackers. The students were at the forefront of this festivity.
This was followed by Dandia, a traditional Indian dance played with sticks in the hand.
Music and drinks got the students going.
The party moved to games which were thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
A tug-of-war was held between the students and the staff. The students won, helped in no small measure by Scott Majorino who is a Rugby player. Scott is from the US and you can see him leading his team of students.
The game of musical chairs had everyone huffing and puffing and asking for more food and of-course drinks !!!
Diwali is a festival of lights and all students received a pretty hand crafted candle to remember the occasion.
The event can be summed up in one student's remark the next day - "At first I was a little worried about taking time out of my studies. But it turned that the few hours were well worth it." - Lou Desimone, MCSD student
