Josh (Nigeria), Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013;55042A:SharePoint 2013 Business Intelligence 30 Aug to 10 Sep 2014

I came to Koenig Delhi for training on Microsoft Sharepoint 2013.
I am sharing the experience of my stay at Koenig Solutions in New Delhi.
I am what you would call a returning customer/student. This was my second trip to India/Koenig Solutions. The first occurred in 2011 (Server Administration - 2008) after a referral from a former colleague in Nigeria.

I was an IT Support Specialist in Abuja. I was surprised at the "all-expense" paid nature of the training cost so I saved up, planned and made the trip in September of 2011. Coincidentally, my second trip also happened in September 2014. But I digressed. After the first trip, I was really impressed with the complete package that Koenig offered, so I promised myself I would be back, though I wasn't sure when this might be. I monitored the Koenig web site and continued to plan for my next training. Three years later, as an M&E Officer and growing GIS Specialist, I enrolled for the SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Business Intelligence in Koenig. Prior to my enrolment, I provided support to end-users who work in organizations that have deployed Microsoft Office 365 and I heard the word "SharePoint" being thrown around a lot, this made me more curious to find out what SharePoint was all about. Also, on my current job specifications, I work with a lot of Microsoft Excel information and I hear Business Intelligence can help me find better ways of presenting all those information. That is how I decided I would sign up for the Microsoft SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint 2013 Business Intelligence training sessions. At the onset of the training I was taken aback by the amount information I had to cover. SharePoint wasn't limited to Office 365 but much more. I was a little impatient because my lab partner was light years away from me on the use and deployment of SharePoint, but our master trainer, helped chart the training properly and I eventually didn't feel left out. Instead, by the end of the training, I became more aware on the deployment, use and support of Microsoft SharePoint server technologies. Thank you all. What stood out on this trip: Training facility - Koenig has completely created a beautiful learning environment at the training facility. From their Twitter handle (http://twitter.com/koenigsolutions) they had already whet my appetite about the new facility's features and I was curious to see this. The local network is pretty much top of the range, the computers in the training labs have the relevant materials needed to guide you through the course contents and study materials. The knowledgeable IT staffs are on hand to provide the necessary support if/when the need arises. The materials and training would give you enough information that you need to be a specialist. You only have to have enough time to study and practice. This is very important. If you are coming for the exam certifications only, please do try and consult your trainer on how to go about this. Ultimately, the decision is up to you whether you wish to take the exams at the end of your Koenig training or not. For my courses, the exam vouchers were part of the training fees. On my first trip, I got four or so heavy Microsoft Library books upon completion of my training. This time, and I believe as part of going green, Microsoft deploys the study materials using an e-book system called "Skillpipe". Koenig provides the student license keys to add these study materials to their personalized e-library. What's great about this is the fact students get the latest study materials when Microsoft releases a revised and newer version of the topic. That way, the student would continue to have the most updated information on the particular topic.

*Student welfare - Special shout out to the Koenig Gardenia staff during my visit. Staff members made me feel so comfortable. They are hardworking, courteous, always helpful, always available, and are great local guides to help with shopping, or whatever else you might fancy. I'm sure other Koenig guests have one or more things to say about the staff embedded in their respective apartments/inns. Before your arrival, you will be guided to every step of the way on visa applications etc. On arrival at the airport, a Koenig driver would be ready to receive you with a welcome kit that helps you 'settle in' before you actually physically settle in. This time, I got a beautiful, personalized water canteen. Each student would be given one of the personalized water bottles at the "meet-and-greet" session arranged for incoming students at the facility. The drivers are very professional also and make you feel this way as they take you to and from the campus and back to the apartment daily. They are ALWAYS ON TIME! Do your best to make their work easier by being available at the designated departure points and time slots for the different student apartments and inns. Most students are on tight and busy schedules, but on Sundays, Koenig arranges tours within Delhi, called Delhi Darshan, which shows the participants famous areas of interest and landmarks around the New Delhi area; another tour is scheduled to Agra, in Uttar Pradesh region. Agra is home to the famous Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, very famous landmarks in India. The fees are usually affordable and there is a well-timed cab shuttle for participants who wish to participate on the tours. The tours usually happen and are alternated during the weekends, one week to Agra, and another week for Delhi Darshan. You would be informed on which tours to apply for the period you are here. On my first trip, lunch was provided by a ticketing system and ordered on schedule daily, all part of the training costs. This time, Koenig has embedded a canteen right in the premises where students have the opportunity of eating a variety of international cuisines. Also, certain student apartments now have meals targeted, at guests from Africa and the Middle East, another way Koenig works to make you feel at home as much as possible.

From my experience, a lot of the students (also speaking for myself) are so well fed most of the time; they would skip certain meals because they aren't hungry. From Tuesdays to Fridays, in the morning hours (from 0845/0900) a yoga instructor holds thirty minutes' complimentary sessions in the canteen. The focus of this is to help students relax their minds and bodies before training starts each day. Whether or not you're into this, I highly recommend participating as you would discover how to prime your mind and focus. A paid, full yoga session is available (for now) at the gym facility of the Koenig Inn Deluxe in the evenings. Specific information can be provided by the yoga instructor at the end of each session, or from the Koenig hospitality desk. If you are adventurous, the experience at the apartments is going to be well worth it. Koenig has several accommodation options available to prospective students. This is important as it helps you plan and budget properly. As you navigate the information page for your course, you click through the different accommodation options and the prices shown help you decide quickly. Laundry is done at no charge by the caretakers in the inn and apartments. Usually they provide you laundry bags on request and the clothes are usually ready under forty-eight hours, depending on the work load. On this trip, I stayed at the Koenig Gardenia apartment - a clean, green, and quiet part of East Patel Nagar. It is strategically situated close to many banks and shopping areas for ease of access to these resources. If you are more interested in the busy evening bustle and hustle, the Koenig Inn Deluxe and Inns around West Patel Nagar would be to your liking.

The apartments host participants from different parts of the world who have come for different training sessions. I am still in touch with certain individuals from my first trip to Koenig and I have met some more during my stay at the apartment on this trip. This definitely is not an exhaustive experience. You need to create your own experience. But I believe you would leave as a different person. Always be ensured of what you want as Koenig endeavors to give you what you request for. Arrange for a one to one training tailored to your needs and skills set. If you opt for group training, you might be paired with someone more experienced or sometimes less experienced than you. For group trainings, where possible, request for a skills assessment before your classes commence. That way, the teacher would be able to know how to pace or focus the class to each student's needs. Whatever it is, be open and discuss with your trainer and fellow student(s) to ensure enjoyable and worthwhile training experience. Koenig thinks about making the student comfortable and to receive the best experience. I believe this explains why the company continues to thrive and attract more students from all over the world. I thank Koenig for the given opportunity to be a feature student. Would I be back at Koenig? Yes sure, but I will see more of India (beyond Delhi), hopefully.
